Sven Nys Mallorca Training Camp

Sven Nys Mallorca Training Camp was a challenging cycling event. From 11 to 17 of March, we were riding through all Mallorca with these ingredients to make the training camp successful were: Sven Nys and his leadership, the weather and the most beautiful scenery in Europe as Mallorca is. 7 days ahead, so many kilometres and the spirit of the participants make the experience a great training camp.

DAY 1: Puig de Randa was waiting for us the first day of the Sven Nys Mallorca Training Camp. The ride starts at Viva Sunrise hotel and the wind didn’t give us a chance. The first 70 kilometres where the most challenging ones however the reward was that the way back we were riding as a horses ;)

DAY 2: The day was so nice and the planned ride for this second day was Orient and Coll d’Honor. We enjoyed this peaceful route thanks to the climate conditions and knowing that the day after we had to face the first challenge.

DAY 3: Sven Nys most favorite Mallorca climb was waiting for us: Coll de Sobremunt. A transfer takes us until Andratx and then we rode all along Sierra de Tramontana. Besides Coll de Sobremunt, other famous climbs as “Puig Major” were ridden by our participants. 6 hours of riding through the most beautiful sights of Mallorca. The groups 2 and 3 went to Coll de Sa Batalla.

DAY 4: The recovery day. A short ride of 45 kilometres allowed us to get hungry enough to enjoy the typical Mallorca “pa amb oli” in “San Remo” a famous bar in front of the beach in Ca’n Picafort. The ones who wanted more excitement went to race against each other until the Viva Sunrise hotel.

DAY 5: A strong north wind was blowing in a gusty way and it made the ride a little bit complicated. The views at the end of the Formentor with its lighthouse at the top deserved the ride. Nevertheless, we had to short cut the ride because of the annoying wind.

DAY 6: To face Sa Calobra our participants needed to be well fed. 115 kilometres and 2000 meters of climbing made it one of the most demanding days. The approach to Sa Calobra was quiet and everybody took his/her own rhythm. When we arrived to Coll dels Reis was the moment to go down with the wind blowing on our faces. Thus at the end starts the real challenge as there is only one way to get back.

DAY 7: The last ride to say goodbye to the Sven Nys Mallorca Training Camp could not be another one as Ermita de Bonany. At the end of the climb we could observe the Bahía de Alcudia and we stopped to take a coffee in Artà, at s’almuéaina café, the last feeding point of Mallorca 312. The closing party could not be other like a cold beer cheering for the success of the Training Camp.

See you all next year!
